IEO Donates 100 Desks to Bayelsa Secondary School
Community Secondary School Polaku, Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.
As part of its Annual Development Programme, the Izon Egberi Organisation donated 100 double desks and seats to Community Secondary School Polaku in Bayelsa State.
The presentation was made on behalf of the organisation by Ms. Adeline Orife, a UK-based member of IEO, and Ms. Ibiba DonPedro, Head of Media and Communications.
This intervention responds to a long-standing educational challenge in the Niger Delta. Limited learning infrastructure, reduced access to instructional materials, and lower school participation rates have affected the quality of education available to many children.
This project forms part of IEO's Annual Development Programme and demonstrates the organisation's practical commitment to education, youth opportunity, and sustainable community development.
By investing in essential classroom furniture, IEO is helping create a more supportive and dignified learning environment for students.

Honouring Captain Samuel Timinipre Owonaro
The Izon Egberi Organisation hosted a landmark virtual event in honour of the late Captain Samuel Timinipre Owonaro, who lived from 1944 to 2020.
A life of courage and sacrifice
Captain Owonaro rose to prominence alongside Isaac Adaka Boro and Nottingham Dick during the historic Twelve-Day Revolution of 1966, serving as Chief of Staff of the Niger Delta Volunteer Service.
As the last surviving member of that revolutionary group, he became a lasting symbol of sacrifice, resilience, courage, and principled leadership.
Dialogue for the next generation
The commemoration brought together leaders, scholars, community stakeholders, and members of the diaspora to reflect on justice, unity, development, and resource equity. Through initiatives like this, IEO continues to honour the past while helping to build a stronger, more informed, and more united future for the Ijaw people.

Strengthening Healthcare at the Grassroots
Toru-Angiama 1, Patani Local Government Area, Delta State.
Toru-Angiama 1 is a riverine town made up of several villages along the banks of the Forcados branch of the River Niger distributary. Like many communities across the Niger Delta, it faces significant challenges in accessing adequate healthcare services.
In 2023, IEO sponsored the deployment of two professionally qualified healthcare volunteers to the community's health centre, strengthening a facility that had relied on one overstretched government-paid nurse.
The volunteers improved response time, supported routine and emergency cases, strengthened maternal and child health services, and eased the burden on the existing nurse.
This one-year intervention made a tangible impact, and other donors later stepped in to ensure continuity after IEO's initial sponsorship period ended.
The initiative reflects IEO's philosophy: intervene where there is need, catalyse sustainable solutions, and strengthen existing systems through collaboration.
